BOOKS FOR COOKS
Some new, some old but all of them excellent additions to your bookshelf.
COOKING by Jeremy Lee | a cookbook with a lot of heart and Jeremy’s soothing encouraging voice all the way through. There are some wonderful classics in this. Think classic pies and pudding such as Pommes Anna. A very good one for the novice or the experienced cook
ZAIKA by Romy Gill | A great one for plant based friends but also for anyone. I learnt so much from this book. During lockdown my husband and I cooked a feast from it including the aubergine dill curry and a BRILLIANT cabbage and turmeric dish that has now become a staple. None of the recipes are wildly complicated and all feel achievable but Romy passes on wisdom and technique that give you confidence to use in all your cooking.
ROAST CHICKEN AND OTHER STORIES by Simon Hopkinson & Lindsey Bareham 160 of Simon Hopkinson’s favourite recipes, it is perhaps the writing I like most about this, calming but practical and to the point. Anyone can cook from this book and it is an excellent one to flick through if you feel you’re in a rut. This is home cooking and proud to be so.
YOUR DAILY VEG by Joe Woodhouse | Joe Woodhouse is one of the best cooks out there I think. If you don’t already follow him on instagram you should. His recipes are vibrant and full of flavour and always achievable.
THE LAST BITE by Anna Higham | Puddings are often the thing that people feel the least confident in when it comes to entertaining and this is the perfect book to give the cook a bit of confidence. Anna is a pastry chef but her recipes are designed for the home cook. There are cakes, tarts, pies, mouses and meringues, all of them fabulous and each one achievable for anyone to make.
Thanks for reading and see you next time
